First steps after your Linux or Windows VPS is ready Print

A VPS gives you full server access. Secure it before you install apps.

1. Find the IP address, username, and password (or SSH key) in your welcome email / service details.
2. Linux: connect with SSH (ssh root@YOUR_IP). Windows: connect with Remote Desktop.
3. Change the default password immediately.
4. Update the system packages (Linux: apt update && apt upgrade or the matching command for your OS).
5. Create a non-root user for daily work when possible, and keep a firewall enabled.

OneiHost does not manage the software inside an unmanaged VPS unless you ordered a managed add-on. Open a ticket if the server itself is unreachable.
